Our Story
In May 2002, Krista K opened in the lively Lakeview neighborhood. Located on the corner of Southport and Cornelia, the boutique was the first upscale women’s clothing store in this now thriving shopping area. From the start, Krista K has been recognized for offering a thoughtful mix of the brightest emerging designers and perennial favorites. In its first year of business, Krista K was named Chicago’s Best New Women’s Boutique by Chicago Magazine and was featured on ABC’s 190 North as one of Chicago’s top 3 Boutiques. Krista K has since been featured in Lucky, InStyle, Women’s Wear Daily, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Cosmopolitan, Travel + Leisure, Crains, Time Out, Daily Candy, Chicago Social, the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun Times and more.
In 2004, Krista K doubled the size of its original space to broaden its collection of denim and maternity. By 2006, the maternity collection had outgrown this space and in need of its own home. Thus in August 2006, Krista K Maternity + Baby opened its doors at 3530 N. Southport Avenue, which is just ½ block north of Krista K.
In 2008, Krista K expanded online launching www.kristak.com - a one-stop fashion spot for women, maternity and baby. In the fall of 2009, Krista K teamed with interior designer Courtney Fohrman of Fohrm Interiors to transform its interior space. The outcome is an elegant, eclectic experience that balances a modern edge with organic elements.
Our Transformation
Today, Krista K Boutique’s top floor is devoted to beautiful collections such as Elizabeth and James, Helmut Lang and Haute Hippie, shoes by Pedro Garcia and Cynthia Vincent, jewelry by Lana and Sway, and handbags by Treesje and Lauren Merkin. Consistently recognized for its extensive selection of denim, Krista K now fills the entire lower level with jeans and casual wear including Current/Elliott, J Brand, William Rast, James Perse, Clu and Splendid.
Krista K Maternity + Baby is dedicated to the stylish expecting mom offering career, casual and cocktail attire. It features a number of fashion-focused collections including Maternal America, Jules & Jim and Olian. Staying true to its reputation as a denim destination, Krista K has Chicago’s most extensive selection of designer maternity denim including Citizens of Humanity, J Brand, and Paige. For baby, Krista K carries an edited selection of cute and comfortable clothing such as Daily Tea and Claesen.
The Krista Behind Krista K
From a young age, Krista loved fashion and had the desire to start her own business. Prior to opening the stores, Krista gained valuable retail experience through her work as a consultant for leading retailers such as Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn and Levi-Strauss. Krista earned an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and has an undergraduate degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Today she lives in the Chicago-area with her husband, Rick, 3 young kids Mason, Marley and Reese, and 2 dogs, Cody and Kaia.
